Mandarin Village Stories

mandarin classroomFrom the Seah Family:

"I love Global Village Academy North. Two of my sons currently attend GVA, and my oldest is an alumnus. My ninth-grader can converse in Mandarin with native speakers. My second and fifth-grader can also understand and speak Mandarin with their cousins and grandparents, who only speak Mandarin. They are also doing well in math, all of them scoring in the ninety-ninth percentile. GVA provides a bilingual education and also makes sure that they have high achievements in their core subjects.”

As an English teacher at GVA and a parent of a first-grader, I am proud to share my experience as both an educator and parent. After working at both GVA Aurora and GVA North, my mind opened up to new possibilities for my son Charlie. I enjoyed the discussions in the teacher lounge with co-teachers from other cultures and the day-to-day interactions with so many awesome coworkers, students, parents, and administrators. I’m not sure what inspired me to put my kindergartener in Mandarin Chinese, but I’m just so glad I did! Since my son has been at GVA, he has been faithful to the pledge he says every morning. He is responsible, respectable, and ready to learn every day. Learning the Chinese culture has helped him to be this way, and having a bilingual education will give him opportunities in the future that we can only hope to make him a successful part of society.“
