Gifted education is addressed in the Exceptional Children's Education Act (ECEA), section 12. Definition according to March 2013 1 CCR 301-8, ECEA Rules, 12.01:

“Gifted children mean those persons between the ages of 4 and 21 whose abilities, talents, and potential for accomplishment are so exceptional or developmentally advanced that they require special provisions to meet educational programming needs. Gifted and talented children are hereafter referred to as gifted students. Children under 5 who qualify may also be provided with early childhood special educational services. Gifted students include gifted students with disabilities (i.e. twice exceptional) and students with exceptional abilities or potential from all socio-economic and ethnic, cultural populations. Gifted students are capable of high performance, exceptional production, or exceptional learning behavior by virtue of any or a combination of these areas of giftedness:”

  • General intellectual ability
  • Specific academic aptitude
  • Creative, productive thinking
  • Leadership and human relations skills
  • Visual and performing arts

Global Village Academy acknowledges that giftedness exists within all sub-groups of our population, and our teachers are aware of the “Distinguishing Characteristics of Gifted Learners.” Students who require non-traditional measurements will be accommodated (Examples: non-verbal testing or portfolio assessment).
