2021-22 GVA-N COVID-19 Precautions

August 19, 2021

Dear GVA Families,

As some of you may know, the Tri-County Department of Public Health has issued an indoor mask mandate for anyone in a school that serves students 11 years old or younger. The mandate goes into effect on Monday, August 23rd. Since GVA-Northglenn is within Adams County, we are required by law to follow this mandate. Masks will need to be worn by all GVA-N students and staff, K-8 in order to be in compliance with this order. Since students ages 12 and up have classes with students that are 11 and younger (electives, foreign language, and some content area classes are mixed grade level), all students will need to be masked throughout the day when indoors.

We understand that wearing a face-covering is not conducive to teaching or learning a foreign language. As such, we will be experimenting with clear masks for teachers and encourage them (if comfortable) for students as well.

For more information or to read the actual order from TCHD, please visit their website at: https://www.tchd.org/. GVA-N is constantly monitoring COVID mandates and recommendations and will continue to communicate policy updates to the GVA-N community as we become aware of them.

Sincerely,

GVA-N Administration and Board of Directors

Atentamente,

Administración y Junta Directiva de GVA-N

COVID Immunizations

COVID Immunizations are encouraged but not mandatory for GVA-N staff or students. We will continue to provide information to the community about COVID immunization opportunities as a courtesy for those who wish to access the vaccine. A list of local vaccination sites is below, however you can always check www.vaccines.gov to search for vaccine opportunities near you. All vaccines are free of charge.

Keeping Sick People Out of the Building

GVA-N will continue to ask that all students and staff complete a daily symptom check (including temperature check) at home before arrival.  Symptoms of COVID-19 include:

  • Fever of 100°F or higher
  • Cough, chest tightness, difficulty breathing
  • Loss of taste or smell
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Sore throat
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Fatigue

Temperature monitoring of students and staff will continue to occur upon arrival using thermal imaging technology. Individuals with elevated readings will be temperature-checked by the nurse or designee. Students or staff with a temperature of 100.4°F or higher will be sent home.

Quarantines

GVA-N will work closely with Tri-County Health Department when making decisions about quarantines. The goal will always be to maximize student safety while minimizing impacts to learning.

Other Safety Measures

GVA-N will continue to use a layered approach to safety which includes:

  • Easy access to and encouragement of frequent hand washing
  • Social distancing when possible
  • Contact tracing
  • Quarantining of symptomatic individuals
  • Increased and improved HVAC (air flow) systems
