Traffic Procedures

GVA Northglenn is a large school with many students and limited space, particularly for pick up and drop off!  With over 850 students enrolled, the parking lot and street is very full as everyone is trying to pick up and drop off their students. Following the traffic rules will be critical to everyone’s safety.  Next door to GVA is BBVA Compass Bank. We have been working with them to create a respectful driving and parking situation. Additionally, we try to be good neighbors to the apartment complex directly to the north of our buildings. The Traffic Pledge addresses not only safety but also expected driving behaviors needed to maintain a positive relationship with our neighbors.  Please do not park in the bank parking lot and avoid blocking the apartment entrance and exits. We are depending on you to make the pick-up/drop-off of our students safe.

As a GVA parent, I pledge to be a positive example of safety by:

  • Being patient
  • Following the direction and guidance provided by the traffic staff
  • Putting my cell phone away while in the parking lot
  • Crossing only at crosswalks
  • Walking my child to the crosswalk when I park in the parking lot
  • Accessing only GVA property for turning around, parking and dropping off students.
  • Not smoking on campus and/or during drop off and pick up
  • Not bringing dogs or other pets on campus

I understand that the bank parking lot is not school property and should not be used for drop off, pick up or anything related.  I understand that the people in the apartment complex to the north of GVAN will need to exit and enter their parking lots and I will not block these entrances during afternoon pick up.

2019-2020 School Year Pick-Up Card Implementation for K-2

To ensure the safety and security of our students, we are introducing pick-up cards for all K-2nd-grade students of Global Village Academy Northglenn. Please carefully read the information provided below:

  1. The new ‘Pick-Up Card’ is meant to be used by the family members or other approved individuals for pick-up of students. These adults should show the “Pick-Up Card”  to the PM teacher at the time of pick-up each day. This card helps ensure that a child is picked up by an approved person. The card will have the school’s logo, student name, and a personalized code for each child.
  2. The use of the ‘Pick-Up Card’ will ensure that only someone designated by the family is authorized to take the child from the school. The purpose is to prevent confusion or accidents of any kind.
  3. Your child will not be allowed to go home with either you or any other authorized person unless you or he/she shows us the ‘pick-up card’. You are requested to strictly follow this procedure. As teachers become more comfortable with specific adults, a ‘pick-up card’ may not be needed. However, school personnel may always ask for a ‘pick-up card’ if they are unsure of the individual trying to pick up the student.
  4. If you do not have the ‘Pick-Up Card’, you will be asked by the teacher to go check-in at the front desk and get a visitor badge to ensure that the individual is approved for pick-up.
  5. Please keep your child’s pick-up card safe and use it each day. The first 2 cards will be issued free of charge but if a card is lost, a duplicate will be issued upon payment of $2.00. Additional cards may also be purchased at the front desk.
  6. Parents or other approved adults that are picking up in the “hug and go” lane will not need to show their ‘Pick-Up Card’ if they have their school bus tag showing. This tag will have the individualized student code on it. However, if a school bus tag is not showing, a ‘Pick-Up Card’ will need to be shown.

We look forward to your cooperation in this regard.

NEW THIS YEAR (2019-2020): The north gate (near 114th Ave and Melody Drive) is now an entrance only. A new exit only has been added to the east of this gate. Additionally, there have been changes to permitted street parking on both Melody Dr and 114th Ave. Please follow all designated signs and staff member instructions for this change.

Morning Drop Off

Students will be able to enter the school at 7:45 AM and will go straight to their class, teachers will not pick students up outside.

  • MIDDLE SCHOOL (MS) students and their siblings can be dropped off as early as 7:30 AM and MUST go to Village Square so that they are supervised.
  • All other students can be dropped off as early as 7:45 AM.
  • Students dropped off before 7:45 AM without an enrollment form on record with Village Square will be left unattended until 7:45 AM. GVA-NG does not provide FREE supervision before 7:45 AM. If a student is seen repeatedly dropped off prior to 7:45 AM, Child Protective Services will be called.
  • All students going to Village Square must have an enrollment form filled out with emergency contact information.
  • Do not park in the bank or office parking lots adjacent to the school.  You will be towed.
  • From 7:30 – 8:15 AM, the Community Center Drive (south) gate becomes an EXIT only. You MUST enter through the 114th Ave./Melody Dr. (north) gate only.
  • You may park and walk your child into school, or use the “hug and go” lanes.
  • When entering the school grounds from 114th Ave. for the “hug and go” lanes, the far right lane is for Kindergarten & 1st grades.  If dropping off more than one grade, you may use this lane.  The middle lane is CLOSED in the morning. The far left lane is for dropping off 2nd-8th graders.  Please watch for pedestrians in crosswalks.  Drop off students in only the designated drop off zones (areas that adults are in to assist).
  • Please pull ALL THE WAY forward before stopping to let students out.  This helps to prevent back up on neighboring streets.
  • Students should be ready to exit by the time you reach the unloading zone.
  • Parents/Guardians: do not get out of your cars when in the line. If you need to get out of your car please park and walk your student to the sidewalk.
  • If you have a car seat on the driver’s side please park and walk your student to their assigned waiting area.
  • If you need to get something out of the trunk please park and walk your student(s) to their assigned waiting area.
  • Please move forward as the line moves.

  • Children will be able to enter the school at 7:45 AM and will go straight to their class, teachers will no longer pick students up outside
  • Staff members will be outside to assist students coming in until 8:00 AM.
  • Classes will begin promptly at 8:00 AM. All students who arrive after 8:00 AM are considered tardy.
  • When exiting the campus through the Community Center Dr. (south) gate, you can only turn RIGHT onto Community Center Dr.
  • When exiting through the north gate, please be aware of pedestrians.
  • On inclement weather days, an INDOOR sign will be hung in front of the school.  Children will not wait outside but instead go directly to their classrooms between 7:45 and 8:00 AM.

Afternoon Pick-Up

This procedure has been used in numerous schools and is very effective if everyone cooperates.

  • Please remember school does not dismiss until 3:15 PM.
  • Day Care buses will use the Kindergarten & 1st-grade lanes.
  • Do not park in the bank or office parking lots adjacent to the school.  You will be towed.
  • From 2:30 PM – 3:40 PM, the Community Center Drive (south) gate becomes an EXIT only.  During these times, please enter through the 114th Ave. (north) gate only.
  • You may park and meet your child with their class, or you may use the pick-up lanes.
  • To use the pick-up lanes:  after entering the 114th Ave (north) gate, the right and middle lanes are for Kinder and 1st grades and their siblings/carpools. The left lane is for 2nd-8th grades.
  • Please be careful and aware of all crosswalks. The speed limit is 10 MPH!
  • When using the pick-up lanes, please have your student(s)’ name placard displayed clearly on the passenger side of your car so that we can find your child quickly.
  • Students will be called to the assigned loading zone and loaded into cars once you pull up to assigned loading zone.
  • Make sure your children, and those children who ride in your carpool, know your car.
  • Students’ names will be called 3 times. If your student doesn’t report to loading zone you will be asked to park in the parking lot and retrieve your child.
  • Please stay in your car while in the pick-up line.
  • Please move forward as the line moves.
  • If parking and picking up your child, PLEASE use the crosswalks.  This helps with traffic flow.
  • In an effort to keep students safe, teachers are unable to have long conversations with parents during this time.  Please be courteous of their responsibilities during dismissal.  As always, feel free to contact your teacher via email or phone if a conversation is needed or you have questions.

It is strongly advised that you fill out a Village Square registration form as an emergency backup in case you are late to pick-up your child.  Children not picked up by 3:30 will automatically go to Village Square, however, if your child does not have a registration packet on file with Village Square, they CANNOT ATTEND, according to the State of Colorado Department of Human Services Division of Child Care.  As a result, children not picked up after school are considered “abandoned” and GVA-NG is required to call Child Protective Services in such cases.
